Ukrainian pupils are becoming successful financiers
On December 1, 2011б eight schools became winners of the Contest «Pt - Advanced Technologies of Training", which was held under the project "Education of Triple Nine." The aim of the pedagogical creativity contest is to motivate teachers to use information and communication technologies and implement educational initiatives in teaching the subject of "Economics".
The winners of the contest developed the best lessons and calendar planning for the course "Fundamentals of the Economy", through which pupils will learn the basics of financial literacy. As a prize, new computer classes will be equipped for the pupils of those schools. The contest involved 15 schools from Dnepropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Odessa, and the AR of Crimea.
The initiator of the pilot project was the Platinum Bank, and the organizer of the contest for teachers was the Institute of Innovative Technologies and Content of Education of the Ministry for Education and Science, and Youth and Sports. The project was implemented with the support of the companies "Microsoft Ukraine" and "MTS Ukraine."
"The winning teachers have demonstrated examples of bright pedagogical creativity. They showed how computer technology can be used for comprehensible and exciting presentation of the basics of economic theory even to first-graders" Tamara Pushkareva, Deputy Director of the Institute of Innovative Technology and Content of Education said.
"The elements of economics and finance are as necessary for our children, as a basic knowledge of traffic rules, spelling and mathematics - Greg Krasnov CEO of the Platinum Bank says – It is the second year when we are running "Platinum Posidelki" for children aged 7 to 14 years, which are interesting game sessions where we explain to kids what money is, where it comes from and how to handle it. At these sessions, children often ask "baby" questions in respect of the "adult" subject of money. And considering these issues, we see our pupils are poorly oriented in the area of finance, as such. So we took the initiative to conduct the project "Education of Triple Nine."
The lessons designed for the contest allow pupils to learn theoretical knowledge of economics in an easy and playful way, which facilitates and accelerates perception of the subject.
"We hope that due to those innovative lessons, a new generation will be financially literate. We believe that these kids will be among Nobel Prize Winners for Economics and Brilliant Financiers", Greg Krasnov summed up.
"Access of pupils to modern information technologies is a pledge of their future demand on the labor market and a prerequisite of Ukraine' competitiveness in the world. According to the research conducted by Microsoft this year with support of the Ministry of Education and Science, and Youth and Sports of Ukraine, one computer is provided to 28 pupils in Ukraine, while in Europe and the U.S., this one computer is available for 5 - 7 children. Therefore, we pay much attention to the introduction of information technologies in educational process are happy to support this project", Yana Kurchenko, Director of Educational Programs, Microsoft Ukraine, said.
"Modern communication technologies can improve the quality of education, make teachers’ work as efficient as possible, and lessons may be turned into a fascinating process. But for this, they should be available everywhere, both in cities and villages. Therefore, ensuring the availability of innovative technologies and the elimination of digital inequality form a basis of all our projects in the field of education. We are also willing to support initiatives of our partners aimed at solving the same problem. By the way, we were pleased to find, among the winners, the school which we had connected to a 3G Internet under the Project "Mobile Internet from MTS to School” in the past year", Ivan Zolochevsky, General Director of "MTS Ukraine", noted.
In addition to new computer classes for schools, winners and organizers have prepared a package of educational activities. The Platinum Bank’s experts will hold "Platinum Posidelki". Microsoft Ukraine will train teachers to work with computers during the training course "Digital Technologies". And "MTS UKRAINE" will provide "Lessons of Mobile Literacy" for pupils of 4-5 grades.
