Banks Strategy of Success in Hard Times

On November 18, 2009, a discussion workshop focused on strategies of Ukrainian banks was hosted by the 4th Annual Conference of Adam Smith Institute of Ukrainian Bank’s Forum. The discussion was attended by the General Director of Platinum Bank Greg Krasnov who told of constituents of a balanced bank strategy in crisis time.

In the course of the discussion, the banks discussed effective areas of operations which are in demand in crisis environment. The banking market was analyzed by such parameters as: portfolio risk, ration of capital and assets, methods of support to clients for solution of loand debts. The panel participants came to a conclusion that today retail business and service to individuals is one of the most priority areas of banking business.

Greg Krasnov, General Director of Platinum Bank, said: “Fundamentals of a bank’s strategy is the following mix – return to funding basic principles (retail deposits), support to high level of liquidity, conservative approach to assets and liabilities management, strong risk management and efficient profitability management. This set of actions enables you to fish out that “golden fish” as a sign of prosperity”.
